Honoring Service, One Star at a Time

The Stars for Our Troops program is a heartfelt tradition that gives new purpose to retired American flags. When a U.S. flag becomes too worn or faded to fly, its embroidered stars are carefully removed, preserved, and packaged with a message of gratitude. These “pocket stars” are then presented to veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders as a small but powerful reminder that their service is honored and remembered.

Each star comes with a short message such as:

“I am part of our American flag that has flown over the United States. I can no longer fly, The sun and winds caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that you are not forgotten.”

These stars represent courage, sacrifice, unity, and the enduring pride of the American people. By giving a star to a hero, we share a symbol of appreciation that can be carried in a wallet, pocket, or uniform.

What Happens to the Flag?

• Only embroidered stars from properly retired U.S. flags are used.

• Stripes and unusable material are respectfully disposed of according to U.S. Flag Code.

• The preserved stars are cleaned and sanitized, then placed in small pouches or envelopes along with a message of thanks.

This process ensures dignity, respect, and a meaningful second life for the flag.
